Position: R&D Research Professional (Analytical Instrumentation background)

Location: San Jose, CA

Terms: Contract to Direct, 12-18 Month Contract with Option to Hire

Position Background and Description:

This is a green technology that reduces waste by eliminating pipette tips. Echo liquid handlers and laboratory automation solutions are broadly utilized in the top 20 pharmaceutical companies, as well as in leading academic and research institutions worldwide. Echo technologies address an application space including drug discovery, compound management, genomics, proteomics, synthetic biology, next generation sequencing, cell encapsulation, cell transfer and mass spectrometry. Your responsibilities will include: Participate in research and design targeting new features and methods for instrumentation. Work with project teams and lead the definition of detailed technical specifications. Define and execute design verification test plans. Participate in design reviews for hardware and software as it applies to improved acoustic drop ejection methods. Support the New Product Introduction (NPI) team.



  • BS with 2 years of experience or MS with 0 years in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or related disciplines.
  • 2 years of experience in the development, test, and analysis of analytical instrumentation.



  • Analytical, rigorous and detail-oriented in planning, experimentation, and analysis. Strength in critical thinking, problem-solving and root cause isolation.
  • Experience with statistical data analysis. Excellent hands-on laboratory skills (dilutions, pipetting) and experience with basic laboratory equipment (balances, centrifuges, pipettors).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Attention to detail and quality focused.
  • A ‘can do’ attitude and the desire to learn.



  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB.
  • Hands-on experience with liquid handling instrumentation. Demonstrated ability to test and isolate root cause with electronic, mechanical, and software subsystems.
  • Experience with DOE methods for process optimization.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB.



  • Execution and design of experiments to understand fluid behavior as it effects acoustic droplet ejection.
  • Collect and analyze data used to define and verify new product features.
  • Summarize data and report results to the team
