We are working with a growing engineering firm in Alpharetta, Ga who is looking to add a staff level Mechanical Engineer III. The staff mechanical engineer III is a leading member of a multidiscipline design team working primarily on design of pipeline metering and pump stations and terminals associated with the oil and gas industry. The ideal candidate will have a PE license or equivalent experience. They will lead a team of junior engineers and designers with the goal of providing best practice engineering solutions to clients. They will work with clients and design staff to solve engineering challenges associated with facility layout, material specification, system sizing (piping, pumps, valves). They will assist in the training, mentoring, and leading of junior engineers.


  • Manage client relations through good mechanical design.
  • Develop conceptual design basis documentation and perform calculations to size pumps, control valves and analyze the performance of pipeline systems.
  • Work with design personnel to develop and deliver engineering drawings such as PFDs and P&IDs, and construction documents including plan, section, and isometric piping drawings. 
  • Work with business group to develop labor and cost estimates for potential projects.
  • Lead mechanical work and coordinate all aspects of projects with the client and other disciplines 
  • Oversee the development of material and equipment specifications and bills of materials.
  • Assist in procurement of materials and equipment by issuing requests for bid/quote, analyzing proposals and providing recommendations to clients. 
  • Review work of junior engineers and designers to ensure designs meet technical requirements provided by the client, meet industry, national and local codes and standards and follow good engineering and design practices.
  • Manage project by tracking schedule and budget and by providing project reports both internally and to clients.
  • Responsible for Quality Assurance and Quality Control for all mechanical engineering documents and drawings for assigned projects.


  • 6+ years of experience in piping/mechanical engineering and design in industrial related industry
  • BSME from an accredited college or university required 
  • PE license with NCEES record preferred 
  • Able to utilize AutoCAD, MS Office, MS Project 
  • Able to perform complex pipeline hydraulic calculations
  • Familiar with ASME piping codes and standards 
  • Experienced in pipe, pump, control valve sizing, specification and selection
