Description

Our client located in Newton, Ma is looking for a 2nd Shift Manual Machinist to join their 2nd shift on a Direct hire basis.                         

JOB FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Supervisor, incumbent sets up and operates all equipment associated with the Plant 6 Machine Shop, specifically; Lathes, milling machines and drill presses. Operation of other equipment that support the manufacture of Ta and Niobium products will also be required. required.

PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES/DUTIES:

  1. Sets up and operates lathes both manual and CNC.
  2. Sets up and operates milling machines both manual and CNC.
  3. Sets up and operates the UT plate scanner and The water jet cutter
  4. Interpret drawings and plan work in a proper operational sequence
  5. Selects and sets “speeds” and “feeds” based on material being processed
  6. Use precision measuring tools to verify that all work is completed within the required tolerances.
  7. Inspects and maintains all tooling required to support the machining process.
  8. Performs troubleshooting and routine preventative maintenance tasks on production equipment.
  9. Required to process material samples as required.
  10. Follows prescribed safety rules and regulations and standard operating procedures to ensure personal safety and high product quality
  11. Maintains work area in a clean, safe and orderly condition on a daily basis by following 5S Standard Work practices
  12. Cross train in other process areas as time permits

KNOW – HOW:

Requires a high school or vocational degree or equivalent. 1-3 years of machine shop experience is preferred.  Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.  Must know how to operate lathes and milling machines.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Under the direction of the Supervisor or Group Leader, incumbent applies clearly defined standard practices and procedures, with some decisions required.  Incumbent proceeds alone, under standard practice, referring all questionable situations to the group leader or supervisor.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Errors can lead to significant loss of product and capital equipment in addition to subjecting incumbent and others to potential harm.
