Job Title: Chief Inspector
Summary: Supervises, trains, and assists the employees assigned to the Quality department in a variety of standard and special purpose inspections and tests. Coordinates with the Lead Persons in Plastics and Secondary operations on day to day operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans and coordinates daily inspection duties to meet production and shipping needs. Gathers measurement and process data for trouble shooting problem jobs. Assists Quality Inspection Manager in day to day operations including customer complaint investigations, folder updates, etc. Maintains normal calibration, cleaning, and maintenance of measurement equipment. Supervises and assists in storage and maintenance of documentation, records, and samples. Supervises “Last Shot” program and resultant (if needed) corrective actions. Maintains and coordinates housekeeping within the Quality Lab. “Insight To Print” program. The Chief Inspector participates in the hiring process by interviewing some job applicants and recommending selected candidates to the Quality Inspection Manager. Make occasional customer visits for both problem/complaint situations as well as normal periodic visits to major customers.
Reliable, repeatable results from a variety of measurement equipment and the ability to read prints are a must, as is good vision and attention to detail. Knowledge of SPC inspection techniques and computer use is important. Knowledge of injection mold production environment and familiarity with the molded products and any additional inserts or fixtures used in the process is important. The Chief Inspector must be attentive to details and maintain clear communications with inspectors, operators, and supervisory personnel regarding information and quality issues. The Chief Inspector works from and gives written and verbal instructions. Accuracy in written and verbal communication is essential.
Participation in and contribution to teamwork within the organization is a responsibility of this position. The ability to maintain clear communications and cooperative working relationships with co-workers is essential. Regular attendance and punctuality are a must. Other duties may be assigned as needs arise.
Knowledge and Experience:
A high school diploma, or GED, the ability to speak, read and write English and basic math skills are required. Previous experience in measurement, SPC, and plastics / injection molding is desirable. 3-6 month’s of on-the-job training and experience in supervision are needed to perform at a satisfactory level with minimal supervision.
