The DAVIS Companies is supporting a global leader in the Control Panel Industry by securing a Mechanical Drafter to join their team. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Read, understand and utilize various engineering and manufacturing documents including bills of materials, assembly drawings, assembly instructions, wiring schematics and diagrams
  • Verify parts match Bill of Materials
  • Pre-assemble and mount electrical components and assemble control panel steel per documentation
  • Cut, strip, crimp and wire 26 AWG – 500 MCM per “to-from” documentation with a high degree of accuracy
  • Bend and terminate larger wire (14AWG – 2AWG normally, 1/0 – 500MCM occasionally)
  • Apply hand/power tools to ensure correct torque
  • Straighten, align, and organize wires to professional standards
  • Perform re-work of wiring and assembly at request and guidance of QA Technicians
  • Wire control panels using schematics
  • Identify problems, implement solutions, and document on QA and problem resolution logs
  • Assist in training other departments/facilities on new business
  • Show examples of proper workmanship
  • Provide feedback to engineering by marking up drawings
  • Provide suggestions for improvements to better support future orders
  • Have the ability to work with unique materials (especially commodity items like hardware and wire)
  • Assist in other areas of manufacturing as needed
  • Maintain a safe, organized and efficient work area
  • Assist in 5S and Lean activities as required

Education, experience, and skills:

  • At least 2 years electrical training or education preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to use “torque” tools
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting electrical schematics / diagrams preferred
  • Proficiency using hand and power tools in a safe manner
  • Proficiency using measurement tools such as calipers, tape measurers, and torque tools
  • Good hand dexterity and strength
  • High motivation level and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Strong attention to detail, organization and time management skills
  • Basic math and communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English without the aid of an interpreter
  • Ability to work overtime depending on work load
