Description

PURPOSE:

The Lapping Machine Operator will be responsible for the lapping process on production parts to achieve very precise dimensional tolerances and specific finish requirements.  The functions are performed in accordance with the pre-established lapping procedures that identify the manufacturing process specific to each type of part that is being manufactured to ensure that all processes are conducted properly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs lap machine cleaning and necessary fluid removal based on previous run times. Reviews the machine setup by ensuring the correct abrasive is loaded in the machine based on the desired surface and material finish requirements.
  • Divide multiple runs so that uniform pressure will be applied to all parts.
  • Lapping Run Sheet-Review the process sheet to determine the final tolerances and requirements for the job. Record this information at the top of the lapping run sheet. Take random thickness measurements to determine the starting thickness average, record on the lapping run sheet.
  • Lap the parts per the ceramic or copper lapping procedure.
  • The final step in the manufacturing process is to clean the parts based on the specified cleaning instructions.
  • Measure all parts based on the four corners and the middle, record the measurements on the lapping inspection form.
  • At the end of every shift or job follow the correct machine shut down instructions for fluid changing, removal and finalize the paperwork.
  • Works directly with Engineering and others for prototype or new products.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of experience
