Role Summary:

As a research engineering co-op at Waters, you’ll be an integral part of a small engineering team working to develop new technologies which will be used to create next generation scientific instrumentation.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…

  • Brainstorm engineering solutions alongside engineers and scientists
  • Experience the product design cycle: Conceptualize, design, assemble, and test electro/mechanical prototypes to support technology development
  • Troubleshoot and solve electro/mechanical problems in prototype and production equipment
  • Work with scientists and engineers to understand performance characteristics and limits of new design concepts
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team, getting input and feedback from people with varied technical backgrounds
  • Learn to use and leverage high tech tools to support engineering efforts (3D printing, precision machining, scanning electron microscope, high resolution digital imaging, ANSYS simulation software,  Instron material testers, and more)

What you need to be successful…

  • Working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Desire to be challenged by new engineering problems
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems (some electrical knowledge a plus but not required)
  • Confidence working with data (collection, analysis, and presentation)
  • 3D modeling skills (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Self motivated, willing to jump into new and unfamiliar engineering problems
