Role Summary:

As a co-op in the Systems Development group at Waters, you’ll be an integral part of a small engineering team working to develop new technologies which will be used to create next generation scientific instrumentation. This role presents an opportunity to develop interdisciplinary electrical, embedded, or software development skills; or focus on a single field depending on a candidate’s experience and interest.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…

  • Brainstorm solutions alongside engineers and scientists.
  • Experience the product design cycle: conceptualize, design, build, and test prototypes to support technology development.
  • Troubleshoot and solve electrical, firmware, or software problems in working prototypes.
  • Work with scientists and engineers to understand performance characteristics and limits of new design concepts.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team, getting input and feedback from people with varied technical backgrounds.

Successful candidates may…

  • Be working towards a Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science degree.
  • Desire to be challenged by new engineering problems.
  • Have an understanding of electrical systems (circuit schematics and layout).
  • Wish to develop low-level microcontroller programming skills, typically in C.
  • Understand basic object-oriented design principles.
  • Work with higher level application run-time environments: Node.js via JavaScript.
  • Develop experience working with data interfaces such as SQL and D3.
  • Be self-motivated and willing to jump into new and unfamiliar engineering problems.
