Description

Director of Hardware Engineering

We are looking for a Director of Hardware Engineering to manage a team of talented Mechanical Engineers taking on hardware design of a first generation product for a well-funded, rapidly growing startup in Burlington, MA.

The Director will set the short to long term priorities, synthesize and communicate the product vision, manage roles and responsibilities amongst the team, and interface with all other leaders in the company. They are expected to effectively make mission critical decisions, identify and remove obstacles to progress, and negotiate in a demanding startup environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, innovative, technical leader that can motivate his or her team by bringing energy and passion to the workplace on a daily basis. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Managing the HW team: 6+ direct reports.
  • Outstanding leaderships skills and ability to delegate responsibilities effectively
  • Managing design partners
  • Strong technical expertise in mechanics and system modelling
  • Responsible for technical progress towards company goals and product vision
  • Product Design, system engineering and Manufacturing
  • Planning the Product Roadmap
  • Budgeting for in-house and outsourced expenditures 

Qualifiactions:

  • Agile Methodologies such as SCRUM
  • Precision Machine Design
  • Solidworks (including simulation) and PLM
  • FEA
  • DOE and Statistical analysis
  • DFM 
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ progressive experience in multidisciplinary Product Development.
  • 3+ management experience
  • MS or PhD is a plus
  • Robotics or precision machine design experience
