We have an exciting position available for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer for an integral role with a team in Fort Worth, Texas in the defense industry. This person will have led technical initiatives and mentored junior Engineers in the past, as well as be adept with tools such as Solidworks and Ansys. Overview

The Staff Mechanical Engineer is the functional lead within the Mechanical Engineering team. This role includes leadership and individual contribution; an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to provide both Mechanical Engineering technical leadership and team leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Support Bids and Proposals. Expected to lead substantial proposal and marketing initiatives.
  • The candidate is required to demonstrate skill and ability to analyze and develop highly innovative solutions to unusually complex problems, and independently performs strategic tasks critical to the long term success of the engineering department.
    • Lead/Support strategic planning for department execution improvement initiatives
    • Mentor junior and senior engineers. Recommend hiring.
    • Help establish training plans for ME team members
    • Manages discipline critical tools, recommends improvement opportunities
    • Coordinate with other sites on best practices and implement changes as required
  • Ensure programs are staffed to plan. Support workforce planning activities.
  • Mechanical system concept development, mechanical system architecture, mechanical system trade-off analysis, requirements definition and flow down, detailed mechanical design, test and evaluation of opto-mechanical and EO performance parameters at both the component and system level.
  • Successful candidate is expected to present a track record of the following essential technical skills/ functions:
    • Skilled in the use of solid modeling CAD tools specifically SolidWorks
    • Understanding of design dimensioning and tolerancing methods and conventions (e.g. true-position dimensioning, geometric tolerancing, etc.), assembly constraints, and kinematics
    • Fundamental modeling and analytical understanding of static and dynamic mechanical properties (e.g. stress, torque, natural frequency, damping, thermal expansion, etc.)
    • Thermal/ structural (static/ dynamic): use of analytical tools including FEA specifically ANSYS and CFDesign
    • Specification and design of electro-mechanical mechanisms and components
    • Knowledge of advanced electro-mechanical systems: servos, positioning systems, piezoelectric devices, position feedback devices
    • Line-of-sight analysis
    • Mechanisms for multi-field of view and zoom lenses
    • System light-weighting techniques/ materials/ trade off analyses
    • Passive athermalization techniques/ designs
    • Hermetic and Environmental Seal design
    • Electro-Optics System packaging & Integration

Qualifications

  • BSME.  MS Preferred
  • 14 or more years of relevant product development experience (Military products preferred)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Cost management experience preferred
