Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer

  • Applies mechanical engineering principles and concepts in the design, modeling, test and system integration of optical components and subsystems.
  • Design and analysis of opto-mechanical components and optical devices to meet the sub-micron level alignment requirement.
  • Working knowledge of kinematic couplings and passive athermalization techniques
  • Bring product from concept phase, prototype, DVT, qualification, pilot run, up to mass production.
  • Evaluate and select opto-mechanical components, work closely with cross functional team and vendors to package optics in reliable, manufacturable, low cost and high yield modules.
  • Complete technical documents, including design specification, test report, BOM, work instruction etc.
  • Requirements:
  • Minimum Education: • BS/MS in mechanical engineering, Physics or Optical Engineering.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Extensive experience in Optomechanical design and development.
  • 5+ years of experience with design tools such as SolidWorks, preferably working on optical component and system design
  • Proficient with FEA analysis with ANSYS or other packages.
  • Experience with thermal, structural, thermo-mechanical analysis.
  • Experience with optical design simulation with ZEMAX is not required but is a plus.
  • Key contributor that successfully bring opto-mechanical packaging from concept phase to shipped products is strongly preferred
  • A deep understanding of reliability issues for optical components is desired
  • Experience in the design of fixtures and tooling required for the assembly of optical components, subsystems and packages is preferred • Preference for experience with robotics and automated equipment.
  • Experience in designing optomechanical mounts and structures for application in bulk or micro-optic applications.
  • At least 5 years of experience in optical components and subsystem design involving passive or active systems. Knowledge of packaging of micro-optical system/subsystem design techniques is a plus
  • Ability to develop solutions to complex problems which require creativity.
  • Self-starter, self-motivated, and Results oriented and metric focused.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong leadership.
  • Ability to thrive in cross-functional team environment.



Minimum Education:

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Optical Engineering.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted.
  • Preferred Education: Combination of BS and MS degrees in differing specialties. For example, a BS in Mechanical Engineering with an MS in Physics or vice-versa
