Description

Senior Electrical Engineer

Summary:

A full-time opportunity is available for a hands-on Senior Electrical Engineer to influence the future of emissions reduction technology for multi-megawatt diesel generators and other diesel powered equipment.  The successful candidate will develop early stage product concepts and design new products through to fielded systems on a fast-paced development cycle, making an impact through electronics design and technical leadership in a friendly, collaborative environment, working with technology and industry experts.

Job Responsibilities:

Electronics and Electrical System Design:

  • Develop early stage new product concepts through to the hands-on design of embedded microprocessor and peripheral circuits, analog transducer interfaces and signal conditioning, serial communications interfaces, high power DC and AC switching circuits, and power supplies
  • Develop electronic control system architectures including sensors, microprocessor controls, high power switching and power supplies
  • Design and validate firmware used to control DPF systems, working both independently and in collaboration with a software engineer
  • Create electrical system requirements specifications DPF products based on input from the sales force and customers
  • Develop detailed hardware and software technical specifications traceable to functional requirements
  • Enhance product reliability through design improvements and exhaustive testing of prototypes and production systems
  • Evaluate new product ideas and development initiatives as part of a gated product development process

System Testing:

  • Develop test plans to validate new and existing electronic circuits and electrical systems
  • Develop automated acceptance test equipment for company electronic products
  • Develop plans for environmental stress screening of manufactured products
  • Develop, document, and implement product field support procedures for electronic and software systems
  • Make recommendations for product and process changes as part of our continuous quality improvement program

Required Qualifications:

  • BSEE/MSEE with 5 to 10 years of current experience in developing early stage product concepts through to the design of embedded microprocessor, digital control and analog signal conditioning circuits, preferably in the automotive, heavy duty truck or construction equipment industries
  • Proficiency in designing and testing embedded microcontroller, digital control, serial communications, and analog signal conditioning circuits
  • Experience in designing electronic products to perform reliably in severe environments
  • Experience with schematic capture software, preferably OrCAD or Altium, to create and maintain engineering drawings
  • Strong experience developing electronics or electromechanical products under a formal quality management system, including engineering change, document control, and product development procedures.  Experience in a company certified to ISO 9001 or other quality management standard is desirable
  • Familiarity with UL requirements for electrical equipment is desirable
  • Experience in C language programming for embedded systems and Visual Basic programming for graphical user interfaces is desirable
  • Hands-on with enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced, small team environment and interact with all levels of management and staff
  • Track record of successfully managing complex technical projects within schedule and budget constraints
  • Self-directed with excellent technical writing, communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 10%
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
