Position summary:

The Operations Manager must be self-motivated, promote good morale and productivity, maintain a very high level of communication with the Director of Operations Plant Manager, and seek out ongoing training in the leadership fields.  They also support the duties of the Director of Operations/Plant Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for production, quality, on time delivery, safety and profitability of their area or shift.   The individual in this position will provide a leadership role in the Operational Excellence Program and drive continuous improvement and accountability throughout the manufacturing operation. 

Essential Job Functions:                                                             

  • Monitor controls and take proper corrective action
  • Insure that all personnel are properly trained in machine operation, maintenance, core tasks, ISO procedures and safety
  • Insure that all personnel are productive
  • Make continual process improvements in quality, production, safety, maintenance, and training procedures
  • Troubleshoot problem areas, proactively
  • Provide customers with accurate information on delivery and manufacturing concerns or questions
  • Quote components and assure company margins are maintained
  • Adhere to the production schedule
  • Read/follow all pertinent work instruction and company policies
  • Subject Matter expert in: Operations (Manufacturing)
  • Monitors the utilization of employee safety and OE programs
  • Partners with the other business segments:  sales/marketing, customer service, engineering, quality, and finance
  • Understands customer needs and the core business markets we serve
  • Ensures business systems are implemented, maintained, and functioning properly
  • Participates in required company meetings
  • Maintains an organized work area (5S)
  • Participates in the Operational Excellence Program
  • Supports and complies with the company’s Quality System, ISO, and medical device requirements
  • Completes all other work duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements, Education & Experience (incl. KSA’s and certifications):

  • To have 100% of machine check off list complete for all machines in the cell

  • Ability to Operate Equipment, including:
    • Various turning, milling, presses, and specialty machines

  • Geometric dimensions & tolerancing
  • Advanced programming
  • Insure that all personnel adhere to all quality procedures at all times in process inspection, first piece inspection, SPC, etc
  • Monitor employee attendance and adherence to the schedule (take disciplinary action as needed, including written warnings)
  • Assign personnel their work schedules
  • Insure that all personnel work safely and have a safe work environment
  • Insure that all personnel keep their work area clean and maintained
  • Evaluate personnel to the job description
  • Provide employees with goals, performance initiatives and areas of accountability that are directly aligned with the goals of rms Surgical.
  • Train and develop personnel. Hire, manage work hours, vacation requests, review performance, discipline, terminate, make compensation changes, and ensure compliance of personnel to corporate personnel policies.
  • Bachelor’s Degree: Operations, Business Management
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in a machining environment, including managerial experience
  • Ability to consistently achieve short and long term business results
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks when needed
  • Ability to follow through on commitments and holds team members accountable
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and ERP and other business related systems
