A fast-growing contract electronics manufacturer in the NW metro has an exciting opening on their team for a Senior SMT Manufacturing Engineer. The individual in this role will be responsible for the development and support of new/existing SMT production processes, procedures, tooling, capital equipment, cost reductions, continual improvement programs and supporting documentation necessary to manufacture and deliver high quality products to customers on time.  

Job Duties of the Senior SMT Manufacturing Engineer

  • Responsible for the activities related to the development and support of Printed Circuit Board processes including analyzing & improving quality, capacity, and capability.
  • Perform root cause corrective action analysis, process capability studies and implement process controls to ensure process performance requirements are met and sustained.
  • Develop and implement equipment, materials, and process performance requirements; performs vendor searches and equipment evaluation to ensure adequate capability to reduce quality product in required quantities at an effective cost.
  • Develops and performs complex designed Experiment (DOE) and capability studies, develops process specifications, and designs and procures process tooling.
  • Develops process and equipment documentation and trains personnel on new processes, materials and equipment.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in implementing technical and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide technical support for new product launches including establishing process recipes, tooling and performing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews identifying improvements for manufacturability.
  • Lead new technology development with emphasis in continuous improvement and benchmarking.  
  • Provide timely and effective technical support for day-to-day problem resolution impacting production output, quality, safety and costs.
  • Ensure that new and existing processes are safe, ergonomically friendly while meeting all State, Federal and Environmental laws. Helps to assure that work areas are clean and well organized.

Requirements of the Senior SMT Manufacturing Engineer 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering related field plus a minimum of 5 years of related Manufacturing Engineering experience with a focus in the SMT area. 
  • Strong experience with in an electronic/surface mount assembly environment, printed thru hole, SMT soldering process development, implementation and support. 
  • Experience in programming and operation of MYDATA and FUJI SMT pick and place machines preferred. 
  • Required previous experience with screen printer, placement and reflow of all or most of the following: 0.3mm pitch uBGA, 0.3 pitch CSP, Package-on-Package BGA, 01005 passives, Land Grid Arrays, Column Grid Arrays, Type 4 and Type 5 solder paste – both leaded and lead-free, mixed metallurgy reflow profiles. 
  • Previous experience preferred with Fuji Aimex, MyCronic, Vitrox AXI, Koh Young solder paste inspection, and AOI. 
  • Requires team leadership skills, project management skills, must be results orientated, have good problem solving skills, work well with others and have good communication skills.  
  • Experience in the low volume, high mix contract manufacturing industry as well as knowledge of military and commercial specifications and six-sigma/lean manufacturing is a plus.
