Job Description

Position summary:

This position is responsible for the set-up and welding of parts from drawings to specified tolerances as assigned. This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.


Strong mechanical aptitude.

Strong mathematical skills.

Ability to read and understand drawings.

Ability to set up own work.

Ability to maintain close tolerance work.

Strong attention to detail.

Qualified to AWS D17.1

Basic computer skills.

Good communication skills.

Ability to work with others.

Strong trouble shooting skills.

Ability to use grinders, saws, rollers, notchers, torches and drills.


Receive daily work assignments from the Production Supervisor.

Review Job Travelers for pertinent information.

For repeat jobs, review prior set-up notes.

Roll cylinders using rolling equipment as necessary.

Set-up and weld to the drawing provided in the Job Traveler.

Inspect welds and ensure that they are complete and of good quality; identify and correct unsatisfactory welds.

Grind / dress welds as required by the drawing and or the workmanship standards.

Set-up and run automated welding machines.

Document processes on set-up sheets and or job travelers as necessary.

Track and re-order welding supplies as needed.

Train and mentor other welders.

Make recommendations for tooling and or fixturing.

Make recommendations for process improvements and efficiencies.

Maintain a positive work environment.

Keep equipment clean orderly and maintained in good working fashion.

Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Follow all safety rules and company policies as prescribed by the company handbook.

Follow all documented ISO/AS procedures and policies.
