SUMMARY

This role provides sustaining engineering support to both configured and detailed unique customer orders and design improvement of standard products. This position is responsible for planning, scheduling and leading engineering projects to achieve material cost savings, enhanced functionality and increased customer value.  This role requires independent judgement in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of various engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Performs all other duties as required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Provide daily support for the production floor related to product design-centric matters
  • Identify and assure value-add opportunities for the customer and determine if parts and features of current designs meet those requirements at the lowest possible cost
  • Pursue and maintain 3rd party certifications
  • Competently and accurately initiate, review, approve, and execute Engineering Change Orders
  • Assure proper documentation and data files by creating and maintaining up-to-date project records
  • Maintain accurate product structure and packaging data, and design drawings
  • Coordinate, execute, and monitor effective phase-in / phase-out plans for new / alternate product
  • Develop and test prototypes for requested product ideas
  • Process “Special Handling Instruction” (SHI) products
  • Receive and process configure & make to order product, including detail design, Bill of Materials, routing and release to manufacturing.
  • Support sales and customer service organizations with technical information requests
  • Create and update solid models and detail drawings using Auto Desk Inventor
  • Work with sourcing and suppliers to find suitable alternatives for purchased items to reduce cost
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering to evaluate designs and concepts with known processes to assure the most cost-effective production method
  • Promote and maintain a team environment and open communication to ensure continuous and efficient productivity
  • Lead and facilitate cost reduction teams - (VAVE projects)
  • All other duties as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Technical Engineering Certification that encompasses competence and theoretical knowledge equivalent to a standard curriculum of an accredited BS degree in Engineering; Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 3-5 years of mechanical product design experience

 

REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION:

  • None

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS:

  • Proficient in the use of 3D CAD solid modeling software, Auto Desk Inventor preferred
  • Working knowledge of the design/manufacturing of engineered products involving castings, springs, machining, stampings, plastic & rubber molding, assembly, testing, and packaging processes
  • Valve manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of dimensioning and tolerancing practices
  • Strong project management skills
  • Working knowledge MS Office products
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision in an effective manner
  • Ability to effectively participate in and facilitate team meetings
  • Skill in effective oral and/or written communication, including good technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proactive, result-oriented and hands-on attitude
