We are looking for a Tooling Engineer to join our client's team! This direct hire opportunity is with a contract manufacturing company in the northeastern Twin Cities metro. The company offers growth and a great benefits program.

The Tooling Engineer drives new injection mold tooling from the concept to completion & will support existing production tooling. This individual will be responsible for tools built internally and externally, perform DFM activities, overseeing tool design acceptance, maintaining schedules and budgets, & problem solving through the life of the tool. This role also includes creating new mold and/or fixture designs as required (less than 10% of role).

  • Sustain production tooling and drive preventative maintenance activities.
  • Drive production tooling repairs, revisions, and budget.
  • Aids in developing quotes for new tooling, revisions, and repairs.
  • Support & sustain our tool storage process.
  • Update and maintain customer tooling audits (quarterly).
  • Responsible for storing CAD files, customer prints, and related documents.
  • Drive new tooling through the entire development phase.
  • Work with Business Development to obtain project scope (budget, lead-time, key deliverables).
  • Takes info from Biz Dev and owns all aspects of the tooling from that point forward.
  • Perform Design & DFM activities and engage with customers to work through these issues.
  • Modify CAD files and communicate DFM issues using PowerPoint's and WebEx.
  • Determine gate locations, ejector pin locations, document parting line locations, inserts required, actions required, etc.
  • Perform mold flow analysis as required.
  • Oversee and approve mold designs (both internal and external).
  • Work with customer to obtain documented design approval when applicable.
  • Document and resolve tooling issues while pushing for production approval.

While mold design is not the primary responsibility, we do want this individual to be able to perform this task. Being able to assist with light mold designs and help push through tooling revisions will be a critical function of this role.
