Description

Medical Technologist/ Technician
Responsibilities:
  • Performs patient testing according to established protocol with accuracy and within acceptable time periods.
  • Only reports patient testing on instruments/procedures on which they have been trained and are deemed competent.
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate routine and complex laboratory equipment
  • Recognizes abnormal test results and reviews for accuracy, validity and reasonableness, referencing any unresolved questions to the supervisor.
  • Notifies proper personnel and properly documents all critical values.
  • Performs quality control testing according to established procedure.
  • Evaluates quality control results to determine if they meet established criteria and initiates corrective action when out of limits.
  • Reports test results only when quality control values are within acceptable limits
  • Checks instruments for proper function and calibration before use and makes minor repairs or corrections as needed.
  • Participates in start up of new tests as assigned.
  • Performs linearity verification and other complex procedures as assigned.
  • Assists in training and orientation of personnel as assigned by supervisor.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform maintenance and minor troubleshooting of routine and complex laboratory equipment.
  • Maintains adequate supply of reagents and designated control material for assigned sections.
  • Maintains neat and accurate records of all problems and corresponding action taken.
  • Prepares reagents according to procedure in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability of perform all necessary functions in the LIS.
  • Gathers data for quality metric as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must possess the necessary technical and analytical skills to perform clinical laboratory testing and problem solving.
  • Laboratory experience preferred.
  • Must possess oral and written communication skills, computer skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • A Bachelors degree in medical technology or a related field with a Tennessee State license as a Medical Technologist.
  • National certification by ASCP or NCA preferred
Working Hours:  7 pm to 3 am; Monday - Thursday or Tuesday thru Friday; with 2 four day weekends a month.
